Working with Hong Kong performer Siufong Yeung and Japanese wheelchair dancer Kenta Kambara, we recently held a workshop, exploring how artists of different abilities engage with motion capture and avatar remapping in dance. Rather than framing technology as something that “empowers,” we looked at how each performer negotiates, adapts, and reimagines their practice when mediated by digital avatars. The sessions opened up fresh ways of thinking about inclusive, technology-supported performance, and highlighted the creative potential of movement beyond conventional forms.
Special thanks to my collaborator He Xinyu for sharing this journey with me. 💗
